Fort Hood Schedules Power Outage, Here's What You Need to Know

Mark your calendars and have a flashlight handy. Fort Hood sent out a message letting their residents know that a planned power outage will happen on Tuesday, March 15. According to the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hood Facebook page, and re-posted by the City of Killeen, Texas - Government page, the exercise is planned for March 15 - 18.

According to the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hood Facebook post, Fort Hood will be testing the emergency systems with an Energy Resilience Readiness Exercise. Fort Hood will cut power to the entire base for what they are saying will be at least eight hours, but no more that 12 hours starting at 8am.

Base-wide Power Outage

The exceptions will be both the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and the Robert Gray Army Airfield, which will not be affected by the power outages.

So what do you need to know if you live on base? A lot of those questions can be answered by visiting forthoodpresscenter.com/poweroutage, but here's a general overview. Closures include the main exchange, the dental offices, the gas stations, banks, and all power to to the housing on the base. Cell phone service should still be good, but land lines will not be working. Traffic lights will also be without power, but police units will be on-hand to direct traffic. Otherwise, treat intersections as a four way stop. There is no planned disruption for water.

Plan Ahead

The commissary will be closed on the 15th, but open the 16th for normal hours, so shop ahead of time. Outages will start at 8am and should not last any longer that 12 hours.
