If you can't make it to one of the huge trash containers placed around Killeen this week, good news: You can leave some items on the curb next week.

The City of Killeen is offering a free additional solid waste service October 5 through 9 to help you clear out some of the bulky junk that's taking up space in your house, garage, or storage shed. That includes furniture, appliances, boxes, and mattresses.

There are some rules, though.

There's no charge for the first three cubic yards up to 3'x3'x9'. There'll be a $7.50 fee for each additional cubic yard, and a $42 charge for refrigerators containing Freon.

No tires will be allowed. You'll have to take those to the Killeen Recycling Center or the Killeen Transfer Station.

No brush will be collected the week of October 5 through 9, but regular brush collection will resume on October 12.

Other items not being accepted include rock, dirt, deceased animals, or liquid waste. No pesticides, paint, oil, chemical products, or batteries will be picked up. Again, those can be taken to recycling centers or special disposal events.

Here's the collection schedule:

If you miss the pickup window, you can always take up to 300 pounds of excess trash to the Transfer Station at 12200 State Highway 195 free of charge once a month. They're openMonday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
