Miller Park in Temple is one of my favorite places in the world.

I'm not even kidding. I love the duck pond, the grass, the walking trails, the pavilions...all of it. Have since I was a kiddo.

It's just everything a park ought to be, and on Friday it'll be filled with the sounds of awesome 80's music as the City of Temple and H-E-B kick off this year's Hot Summer Sounds concert series.

The first band to take the stage in the series will be 80's obsession, aka Dead Love Club. They're going to bring the best 80's sounds to Temple, including, I'm told, some great New Wave hits.

Aside from being a dork for Miller Park, I'm also a dork for 80's music, so this is definitely going to be my show.

Hey guys, if you're reading this, I have some requests! Can you please play these? C'mon. Do me a solid.

  • New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
  • Flock of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
  • Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now
  • Men at Work - Overkill

Please and thank you.

Miller Park will also host the second concert when The Blues Posse performs on June 11.

The festivities move to West Temple Park June 18 for Landon Heights and June 25 for Tejano Storm Band.

Santa Fe Plaza is next with a performance from The Selfless Lovers on July 9 and the Clint Allen Janisch Band on July 16.

Finally, two big shows round out the season at Lions Park's amphitheater when Hair Metal Giants perform July 23 and Wayworn Traveler take the stage July 30.

The concerts are free, and each is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. You're welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets, but they ask that you don't bring any glass containers. There'll also be food vendors, so no worries if you forget your pic-a-nic basket.

While you should definitely relax and enjoy yourself, do the classy thing and make sure you clean up all your trash before you leave. We're really lucky to have these parks and the folks who do such a great of maintaining them. Let's not trash them, eh?
