It may feel like Summer, but it's technically still Spring and that means you still have time to get all that junk out of your garage, shed, or cabinet and call it "Spring cleaning".

Don't let those old paint buckets rust in your garage. On May 15, the City of Killeen will be happy to take them off your hands, along with other chemicals taking up space in your place.

By the way, you don't even have to be a resident of Killeen!

Every Central Texan is Welcome

The City of Killeen is teaming up with Central Texas Council of Governments to host a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event in Killeen Saturday, May 15 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Killeen Special Events Center, 3301 S. WS Young Drive.

The cleanup event is open to all residents of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills, and San Saba Counties.

So, What Can You Bring?

Hilary J. Shine with the City of Killeen says you can show up with paints, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaners, corrosives, petroleum products, and antifreeze. You can also bring automotive and cooking oils, and they'll take fluorescent bulbs and batteries as well.

What Should You Avoid Bringing?

They will not take tires, electronics, fire alarms, smoke detectors, pressurized containers explosives, or brush that day.

What Do I Do With The Rest?

If you've got materials you're not sure how to get rid of but you want to do it safely and responsibly, visit the City of Killeen's recycling page. If you can't find the information there, email them at recycling@killeentexas.gov or call them at (254) 554-7572.

Lock It Down

Please make sure any items you take on May 15 are in original containers if possible and carefully loaded and secured for transport to prevent spillage or breakage.

You're Doing The Right Thing

Kudos to you to for doing the right thing with these chemicals, by the way. Dumping them is not only unethical and lazy, but could be harmful to wildlife and our water supply, in addition to making our towns and cities ugly. No one wants that.

Let's keep Central Texas beautiful.
