The City of Harker Heights and the Central Texas Council of Governments are launching a small business grant to give local entrepreneurs a helping hand as Texas begins to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

$89,468.50 in money has been allocated to the grant fund by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The maximum amount a local small business can receive is $3,000.

The application window is from 8AM Monday, October 5 to 5 PM Friday, October 16.

Applications will be available at harkerheights.gov and ctcog.org. Once you've filled it out, you can send it via email to anna.barge@ctcog.org or regular mail at CTCOG, 2180 N Main Street, PO Box 729, Belton, TX 76513 Attn: Planning and Regional Services, Bell County CRF.

There are some criteria your business will need to meet in order to be considered for grant funds, and certain eligible uses for the money.

For example, the business must be locally owned and have employed 50 or fewer full time equivalent people prior to March 1, 2020; must have a physical and easily accessible location within Harker Heights in a commercial building or business district; must have been considered a non-essential business during disaster declarations; etc.

You can download a complete PDF format list of eligibility requirements using the button below. The document also includes a list of businesses considered ineligible, as well as a list of eligible uses for the funds.

Your small business is a part of Harker Height's character and identity, so if you and your employees could use some help right now, I would strongly encourage you to apply for these funds. The town just wouldn't be the same without you.
