The average school teacher in Texas makes below the national average salary, but that gap is slowly closing.

According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, Harmony Public Schools are raising teacher salaries starting next school year. This increase follows the new salary schedule that Gov. Greg Abott signed into law last week.

All Texas Harmony school teachers will receive a base salary increase of $3,500- $5,000. Plus educators in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math will receive an additional $3,000 in an attempt to attract more teachers in those fields.

The new minimum salary set by the state is $33,660, while the minimum salary for Harmony Public School teachers is now a whopping $13,340 over at $47,000.

Prioritizing teachers financial well-being has been at debate for quite some time, but with this new salary increase, hopefully we can see that debate put to rest.
