According to a Fort Hood press release, the judge presiding over Fort Hood shooting suspect Major Nidal Hasan's trial has ordered a physical exam to determine if the defendant is healthy enough to represent himself.

Col. Tara Osborn discussed Hasan’s request to proceed with his trial without the assistance of his attorneys during a hearing this morning. Osborn noted that past exams indicate that Hasan has the mental capacity to represent himself.

A medical exam and report are due by May 31, and Osborn will conduct another Article 39a hearing into Hasan’s request for self-representation June 3 at 9 a.m.
