The Killeen Police Explorers need your help as they raise funds with a bake sale and car wash this Saturday.

The Explorer program is an official departmental program chartered through Learning for Life (a subsidiary of The Boy Scouts of America) for youth in our community. On Saturday, August 7, the Killeen Police Explorers will be hosting a bake sale and car wash at Floors R Us located at 2800 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The Killeen Police Department Explorer program demonstrates the nature and complexity of Law Enforcement to the youth. The program encourages explorers to seek careers as police officers. If your child has dreamed of becoming an officer, than this program will provide them with a hands on experience. The program also allows the department an additional opportunity to evaluate each explorer, prior to their future application for employment as a police officer.

Enrollment for the Killeen Police Explorers is available to kids ages 14 to 21 years. Applicants must be able to maintain good grades in school, have a clean background, and a desire and drive to learn about law enforcement.

According to the Killeen Police Explorers page:

"The Law Enforcement Explorer Program brings the Explorer and the police department together through meetings, projects, social functions, and ride along program. Explorers are given the responsibility and respect they earn. In turn, they can make their public service felt among members of the community, especially members in their age bracket."

Explorers also compete compete against other Explorer teams throughout the area, state and even the nation. The Texas Law Enforcement Explorers Advisors Association (TLEEAA) holds an annual event that allows these teams to test their learned skills against one another, with the top participants and teams receiving awards for their performance.

The money raised from the bake sale and car wash will be used to purchase equipment and help fund competition expenses.

The new school year is just around the corner, and Central Texas students will face unique challenges as we put the pandemic behind us and look to the future.
