Investigators – Double Shooting in Bell County Was Murder-Suicide
Investigators say the shooting deaths of two elderly Bell County residents earlier this month appear to have been the result of a murder-suicide.
Our news partners at KWTX-TV report that William Gillen, 75, and his wife Linda Gillen, 71, were found with gunshot wounds in their home at 735 Slawson Lane just south of Killeen around 7:20 PM on December 10.
A Bell County deputy who responded to a request for a welfare check on the couple reportedly spotted Linda Gillen through a window and heard her cough. A short time later, the deputy found William Gillen dead of what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The deputy entered the home and discovered that Mrs. Gillen had suffered a gunshot wound as well.
Mrs. Gillen was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple in critical condition. Authorities say she passed away over the weekend as a result of her wounds.
According to investigators, a preliminary autopsy found that William Gillen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A final forensics report is pending.
Police said they are still investigating the shooting.
