The Belton Police Department is inviting members of the community to have a cup of coffee with officers at H-E-B Friday morning.

Coffee with a Cop is part of a national initiative meant to bring officers and citizens together in an informal and relaxed environment to discuss community issues. Most interactions between the public and police happen during emergencies or otherwise stressful situations, so police hope citizens will turn out to meet officers in a casual setting where they’ll be more approachable.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” Chief Gene Ellis said Monday. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

The event will take place Friday at the H-E-B Plus! Cafe located at 2509 North Main Street beginning at 8 a.m.
