A Killeen Community Day Of Action has been scheduled for January 23rd from Noon to 4PM.

The event is being organized by the Elmer Geronimo Pratt Gun Club of Central Texas.

Activities will include a community patrol and voter registration. There will also be a Free Marvin Guy petition on hand to sign.

Guy has been incarcerated at the Bell County Jail since May 10, 2014 with bonds totaling $4 million. His case is currently in limbo after he reportedly fatally shot Killeen Police Officer and SWAT leader Charles Dinwiddie during a no-knock drug raid at a home on Circle M Drive. Another officer, Odis Denton, was also injured during the firefight. Guy was charged with five felonies including the capital murder of a peace officer.

No-knock warrants have been a highly controversial practice across the nation, and Killeen has been no exception. Back in June of 2020, the Killeen Police Department suspended no-knock warrants for 90 days in order to review the practice. They ultimately decided to resume them, but said they will no longer be serving narcotics-only no-knock warrants. You can read all about that here.

Back in October, Guy's family requested a change of venue for his trial, arguing he was acting in self-defense and that Dinwiddie was struck by a bullet from another officer's weapon. They say he cannot receive a fair trial in Bell County.

January 23rd's event will also feature meetings with local leaders, activists, and politicians. You'll have an opportunity to meet them and ask questions.

Social distancing will be enforced and masks will be available!
