Summer is finally here in Killeen, Texas and I know most of our children couldn’t be happier to be home and done with school. Now they get a chance to lounge around the house and eat cereal at 12 o’clock in the afternoon, and don’t even get me started on tablets and electronics.

But your kids don't have to just be vegetables with their eyes glued to a screen all summer. There's plenty to do outdoors, and now one of our favorite places here in Killeen.

If you’re a parent like me who doesn't allow any of that type of summer laziness nonsense in your house and you’re all about making sure that your child is doing something outside for at least six hours, then there's an excellent place for you to go right before the holiday.

The Killeen Family Aquatics Center at 1800 E. Stan  Schlueter Loop I will be open for the Memorial Day holiday. The gates will be open from 10AM to 6:30PM Saturday, May 28; 1PM to 6:30 PM Sunday, May 29; and 11AM-5PM Monday, May 30.

The weather in Killeen has been rainy and cool this week, but it's about to get blazing hot again, so the fact that they are opening the Killeen Family Aquatics Center for us is really a lifesaver.

They'll open for the full summer season on June 4, which will run through Labor Day weekend. Meanwhile, Long Branch pool's opening has been delayed until July due to unexpected repair work that needs doing. However, the splash pad will open May 28 and remain open 7 days a week through Labor Day (Sept. 5).

By the way, they're looking to hire more lifeguards, so if you'd like to serve your community while making some extra money, you can find more info here.
