Killeen Hotel Party Leaves 1 Teen Dead, Another Injured
The Killeen Police Department is investigating a party at a local hotel that left one teenager wounded and another dead.
According to a press release from the Killeen Police Department, at approximately 12:50 AM on Sunday, March 21, officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue sedan for a possible impaired driver at the intersection of W.S. Young Drive and Elms Road.
Surprisingly, when officers approached the vehicle they found the driver, a 17-year-old boy, dead. No other people were found in the vehicle. Investigators said that the teenager was suffering from a visible self-inflicted gunshot wound, and Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the 17-year-old as deceased at approximately 2:06 AM.
While investigating the scene of that incident, police were alerted to another teenage guy suffering from a gunshot wound at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights. The victim, age 18, told police that he was attending a party at the Shilo Inn, and alcohol had been involved.
The 18-year-old told police that another teen boy was carrying a gun when it discharged and shot him in the hand. Investigators used the victim's description of the teen and the weapon, and were able to conclude that both matched the description of the dead 17-year-old who'd been found in the vehicle at W.S. Young Drive and Elms Road.
The Killeen Police Department is still investigating the party and the shooting, but said they won't be releasing further details at this time.
As you're probably aware, unsupervised teenagers and alcohol don't go well together, especially when you add the wildcard of a deadly weapon into the mix.
