Killeen Police Release Details and Identity of City's 17th Murder

Monday, November 15th saw the 17th murder of 2021 in Killeen. Today, Killeen Police released some details, including the name of the victim.

According to a report from our news partners at KWTX, the man who was shot and killed at a Killeen apartment complex was identified as 18-year-old Dominick Nichols.

The shooting happened at the Archstone Apartments on Hallmark Avenue near Fort Hood Street at around 2pm on Monday, November 15.

Killeen Police found Nichols suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4pm.

Killeen Police Department officials said Nichols and the suspect were in the parking lot of the apartment complex when the shooting happened. Nichols was able to get away and find help.

As we reported earlier, Killeen-Temple was ranked as the 33rd city on 24/7 Wall Street's 50 Metro Areas in the U.S. with the highest murder rates. Between the two cities, the murder rate in Killeen-Temple is 10.3 per 100,000 people, with 48 murders reported in 2020. Violent crimes per 100,000 people was 377.2.

The number are pretty shocking. In 2020 there were 31 murders in Killeen, a record for the city. There have been 17 murders in the city so far this year.
