A Killeen woman was killed early Sunday morning in what appears to have been a violent home invasion.

Officers were called to a home in the 1600 block of Carrollton Avenue around 5:30 AM Sunday. Upon arriving they found a 38-year-old woman lying unresponsive on the floor. Officers performed CPR on the woman, but were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at 6:03 AM, and her remains were sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas to undergo an autopsy.

According to a preliminary investigation, the woman's brother entered the home shortly before 5:30 AM to find that it had been ransacked. He then discovered his sister lying on the floor.

Police believe the woman died as a result of injuries received during the breakin, and that her home was specifically targeted. They have not released the woman's name or the cause of death pending notification of her family.
