The Killeen Police Department is hoping the public can help solve a fatal hit and run on East Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

What Happened?

According to KPD, officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of E. Veterans Memorial around 12:20 AM Sunday, August 15 in response to reports of a person having been hit by a car.

Victim Identified

Investigators determined that a pedestrian, later identified as 37-year-old Yolanda Monique Butler, was walking west in the center turn lane when a westbound vehicle struck her. The driver of the vehicle did not stop or try to render any aid, but instead continued on their way.

Sadly, Butler was pronounced dead at the scene Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 3:49 AM.

Police Need Your Help

Unfortunately, police do not have a description of the vehicle that struck and killed Butler. They're hoping that someone out there saw something or may even have footage that could help them find the driver and seek justice for the victim.

If you know anything that could be helpful to investigators, or if you have surveillance footage that could reveal the make and model of the car that hit Butler, police are asking that you please contact them.

You can reach out to Bell County Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS (8477), bellcountycrimestoppers.com, or via the free P3Tips app.

You do not have to give Crime Stoppers your name, and information leading to an arrest could net you a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Statewide Problem

Police notified us of this hit and run less than two hours after my coworker, Toni Gee, penned an article on an increase in pedestrian and bicyclist deaths in Texas over the past year.

Please, please, always be alert and watchful when you're behind the wheel. There's absolutely no predicting who or what will appear in your path, especially at night.

Do the right thing and help save lives.
