Most of us love a great book, and sometimes we can love a book TOO much and forget to return it to the library. In most cases, we neglect to return these materials because we don't want to pay the late fees, and with the pandemic going on causing the libraries to close, I'm sure you're ready to return what you borrowed, right?

Well, the good people at the City of Killeen Public Library are asking folks to return the materials they borrowed, and in return they will waive the late fees and give you amnesty. That is, as long as you make a donation in another form.

Through June 27, materials can be returned to either library location and overdue fees will be waived with donation of any of the following items:

  • Bag of rice
  • Bag of dried beans
  • Bag of dried pasta
  • Dry cereal
  • Boxed granola bars
  • Pedigree, Purina or Kibbles ‘n Bits dry dog food
  • Friskies, Meow Mix, 9 Lives or Purina dry cat food
  •  Dawn dish soap

Donated items will be given to Killeen Food Care Center and Killeen Animal Shelter.

To be clear, amnesty applies to all overdue fees incurred during the COVID-19 library closures and those incurred prior to that time. Amnesty does not apply to lost or damaged items. The waiving of overdue fees is per library card, so a donation must be made per cardholder wishing to take advantage of the offer.

Killeen has two public library locations both open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Main Library is located at 205 E. Church Avenue. Copper Mountain Branch is located at 3000 S. WS Young Drive.
