Arthur Graf Jr. is hoping to set a world record, defying the odds with some help from a Killeen, Texas doctor.

Setting a World Record

Dr. John Joseph is a family physician with Baylor Scott & White Health who works out of Killeen and is certified under the Diver Alert Network (DAN). Joseph is the only doctor between Dallas, Houston, and Austin currently giving medical clearance for dives, and according to KWTX, he says he gets re-certified about every five years. Graf Jr. is trying to become the world’s oldest male scuba diver on record at the age of 100. After performing multiple tests including an echocardiogram, Joseph says the centenarian is in great shape.

Graf Jr. says he's logged more than 700 dives over his lifetime. He and his son, Arthur Graf III, were certified to dive in 1984, and both say they have been scuba-obsessed ever since. Graf Jr. wants to make his record-setting dive this November, and if he succeeds, he’ll be the new holder of the Guinness World Record for Oldest Male Scuba Diver.

Where Will Graf Dive?

Joseph would serve as one of the two witnesses required by Guinness World Records to make the dive count. The dive must also be filmed.

While a definite location for the record-setting dive has not been officially determined, potential areas include the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean and the Cayman Islands.
