Got ZZZs? Killeen, Texas Man Arrested While Asleep at Stoplight
A Killeen, Texas man was arrested last week after police found him sleeping in his vehicle with his foot on the brake and the car in drive. That's bad enough, but what he did when an officer woke him up didn't help his case.
Court documents say Timothy Jefferson was found asleep and blocking traffic at the intersection of W.S. Young Drive and East Stan Schlueter Loop, according to the Killeen Daily Herald.
Asleep at the Wheel
An arrest affidavit states that an officer with the Killeen Police Department observed Jefferson's vehicle was 'stopped and obstructing the flow of traffic.' The officer approached the car, where Jefferson was taking a siesta behind the wheel.
Jefferson proceeded to roll down his window and hand over a bag of marijuana. After that, he was less cooperative. He refused to turn off the ignition or get out of his car, so the officer was forced to turn off the vehicle and remove the keys, according to the affidavit.
More Drugs Found Inside Car
Police did a search, and in addition to the marijuana Jefferson gave the officer, there was over 2 grams of ecstasy inside the car.
Jefferson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson, who set his bail at $30,000.
Penalties for Ecstasy Possession in Texas
In Texas, possession of less than 1 gram of ecstasy is a state jail felony, according to texasdwisite.com. It can also result in a jail sentence of 180 days to 2 years, and a fine up to $10,000. More than 1 but less than 4 grams of ecstasy is a third-degree felony offense.
