The kids in Killeen have one more week of "freedom" before they return to school on Monday August 26th and you have a few days left to prepare for the return of slowing down in school zones but at least the City of Killeen is giving you this friendly reminder.

According to a press release we received from the City of Killeen, city maintenance crews will be out testing School Zone lights on Friday (August 23) in preparation for the start of the new school year.

They will be testing the lights to ensure proper functionality and timing. Motorists should observe school zones and adjust their speeds during this test period. Make sure you are aware and start paying attention to these lights because enforcement will begin on  Monday.

Please remember that with the start of a new school year, increased traffic, school buses, children walking to school and crossing guards should be expected. And just in case you forgot, it is unlawful to exceed school zone speed limits, use a cell phone while driving in a school zone and to pass a school bus with red lights flashing or stop sign extended.

So heed the warnings and look for the kids as we kick off another school year!
