The Killeen Daily Herald is reporting the surprising news that Vive Les Arts Theater in Killeen is planning to close it doors at the end of the summer.

CenTex families have been enjoying activities and performances at Vive Les Arts Theater for 40 years. The theater has hosted countless performances, workshops, and activities that have made Killeen a better place to live and play.

The fun comes to an end with the final performances of "The Little Mermaid" July 21st - 30th. The theater then plans to close for good August 31st according to KDH.

The news came after an advertisement was sent to the Killeen Daily Herald Thursday notifying the public of the theater's plans to close. The ad in the Herald reads:

The staff and board of directors would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the local community for supporting the theater for over 40 years. We will lower the curtain for the very last time as we end our season on August 31, 2017.

Vive Les Arts Theater made headlines in 1999 after it was discovered that former administrative assistant Connie Kay Cooper was charged with taking over $100,000 in funds from the theater.
