Don't let the headline fool ya. I'm all for a little "bribery" to get things done. In fact, I encourage it.

Call It An "Incentive"

Bribery has its purpose, although most may call it an "incentive". Parents bribe their children all the time, except we call it "allowance."

You know the deal: $10, $15, $20 a week to do some simple chores around the house. Nothing too drastic, just stuff the kids should be doing anyways like cleaning their room and bathroom, maybe doing their own laundry, or taking out the trash.

Back in my childhood I "earned" $10 a week for doing all of those things, plus loading and unloading the dishwasher, assuming the apartment we lived in had a dishwasher. Otherwise it was me and my brother doing dishes by hand.

My parents called the reward an "allowance" but we knew it was just them bribing us to do the chores they were tired of doing. It was all good since money makes for the perfect incentive.

Local School Incentivizing COVID-19 Vaccination

According to KCEN, La Vega High School will give its students willing to take the vaccine shots a $25 gift card.

La Vega offers vaccination clinics to its students every Monday during September, and according to La Vega High's Facebook page, starting October 5 they'll offer vaccinations at all family events at the high school on Tuesdays through December 14.

Vaccines will be made available to both students and adults.

Purpose And Perks

It's nothing new to offer a bribe or reward for getting the vaccine. Many companies are doing the same for their employees. Why not high schools?

Hey, whatever helps get folks vaccinated and put this pandemic in the rearview mirror.
