Local Food Pantry has Hundreds of Pounds of Meat Stolen
News 10 is reporting that more than two hundred pounds of meat was stolen at the Cornerstone Church food pantry in Riesel.
According to Pastor Cyd Collins, the thieves broke in and entered the food pantry twice in a week span. Collins had just ordered all of the locks be replaced before the entry happened.
“The locks had just been replaced and I hadn’t even handed out the new keys to people yet,” Collins said.
The robbers stole the meat during the first heist. However, the second time they broke in and entered they simply turned up the fridge temperatures and left the meat to rot. All in all almost 400 pounds of meat rotted.
“We were able to replace the meat for this week, so when everyone showed up we were able to give each family two packages of meat,” Collins said.
McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said he was made aware of the robberies and would help in the investigation.
