Many Texans love a good bike ride, but some people aren't able to get out and enjoy a ride due to mobility and other issues. A new store opening in Salado hopes make barriers to bike rides a thing of the past.

LoneStar E Bikes will be opening it's doors to the community Thursday, July 13 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. at 560 N Main St #1 Salado. The event will include specials and giveaways, and there will be free E bike rides throughout the grand opening weekend.

What exactly is an E Bike? It's basically an electric bicycle featuring motor to assist with pedaling. Some features larger motors that give them a moped-type functionality. The E Bikes still require you to pedal, so they aren't low-grade motorcycles. Think of the motors as peddling assistance devices.

The E Bikes are rechargeable and can reach speeds of up to 28 mph in the bigger motor models.

The owners of LoneStar E Bikes, Jay and Mary Ford, started their E Bike project in their garage in Temple. The couple had difficulty with components of building the E Bikes, and began buying bikes from prominent manufacturers before deciding to open a retail shop of their own.

The Fords' love for the Salado area inspired their choice of location. After the construction of Interstate 35 through Salado was finally complete, they opened shop in hopes of helping revitalize Salado's business community.

The LoneStar E Bikes brand is offering a big ball of wellness, adventure, art, and history through all of the different amenities they offer for the public.
