U.S. marshals are searching for an armed suspect who fired shots at police while fleeing an attempted traffic stop in Temple Monday afternoon.

A marshal and two deputies attempted to stop 22-year-old Cody Smith near Riverside Trail and Charter Oak Drive around 4 PM in order to carry out an arrest warrant for probation revocation connected to drug charges.

According to witnesses, Smith fled the scene of the traffic stop and fired at least five shots at the officers. No injuries were reported.

Police said Powerhouse Cheer in Belton was on hard lockdown as police searched the area, and parents were being admitted to pick up their children.

Smith is a white male, slightly heavyset, with a tattoo in the shape of Texas on the side of his shaved head. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black hat.
