Local Middle School Student Caught With BB Gun at School

Staff at a local middle school made a troubling discovery on Thursday. KWTX reported that a Midway Middle School student was caught with a gun in his backpack.

In a message to parents, school officials said the discovery was made by another student who saw the other child with the gun.

Officials say the weapon was a realistic looking BB gun. All weapons are prohibited on the Midway Middle School campus. It is unclear why the child took the gun to school.

The district said, "We are grateful for the trust and relationship we have with students who immediately reported this situation so we could address it quickly, and that students were not in danger at any time. We will continue to do all we can to maintain the safety and security of our students as top priority.”
