MLK Day of Service Road Cleanup in Copperas Cove

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 18, and while it's a "day off" for some people, it was intended to be a "day on" spent giving of ourselves in service to our communities.

If you live in or around Copperas Cove, you can do just that alongside Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful (KCCB) and The Mission Continues the Saturday before MLK Day.

They're looking for volunteers for their MLK Day of Service Roadside Cleanup Saturday, January 16 from 8AM to 10AM. You're invited to meet them in the parking lot of McAllister's Deli, 232 Robert Griffin III Blvd., Suite 100, for check-in. They'll provide you with supplies and assign you an area to help clean and beautify.

While they'd greatly appreciate your help, they do ask that you wear a mask when in close proximity to others and practice physical distancing as much as possible to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

As I mentioned above, MLK Day was intended to be a day of service to the community, and you don't necessarily have to team up with an organization to do that.

Even something like helping a neighbor with a project, cleaning up a little in your neighborhood, or donating to great causes like local blood and plasma drives or the Central Texas Food Bank can make an impact and make our community stronger.

Dr. King's vision was of an America in which we recognize each other's inherent value and dignity, and cared for each other as a community of human beings. Even the smallest act of kindness and service toward another person can have a positive ripple effect. Just something to remember.
