Remains Found in Killeen Are Those of Missing Fort Hood Soldier Gregory Morales

The mother of a Fort Hood soldier missing since August of 2019 has confirmed that human remains found in Killeen Friday morning are those of her son.

Our partners at News 10 report that the skeleton of PV2 Gregory Morales was found in a wooded field in the 3200 block of Florence Road after Fort Hood Criminal Investigation officials received a tip. Killeen police were searching the area with K9 units at the time of the body's discovery.

Morales' mother, who lives in Oklahoma, was visited by by Fort Hood officials at her home Saturday morning - a meeting during which they confirmed that it was Morales' body that had been found.

Investigators did not release further information about the circumstances surrounding Morales' death.

Soon after he went missing, Morales was classified AWOL, and later deserted.

Meanwhile, another Fort Hood soldier - Pfc. Vanessa Guillen - remains missing. She was last seen on April 22 in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters, 3rd Cavalry Regiment. Her wallet, ID, and keys were all found in the armory room in which she'd been working earlier that day.

In a media release issued earlier this week, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Commander Col. Ralph Overland was quoted as having said, "The 3rd Cavalry Regiment continues to aggressively search for Pfc. Vanessa Guillen and we will not stop until we find her. Our number one mission is to find Pfc. Vanessa Guillen. I’m laser focused on that. We are working with CID and law enforcement and we will not stop.”

Many in the Central Texas community, including Guillen's family, are questioning the Army's search methods and demanding more information about her disappearance.
