Reward Offered in Cold Case Murder of Mexia Woman
Texas Rangers are hoping someone will come forward with information that could help them solve a 34-year-old murder case, and they're offering a $6,000 reward.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported that 32-year-old Dorothy Estep was last seen by a neighbor as she left her home in Mexia on September 30, 1985. She was reportedly headed to her ex-husband's house to pick up her daughter.
When Estep, a social worker, didn't show up for work the next day, a coworker reported her missing. Her body was found inside the trunk of her Yellow Plymouth Sapporo later that day (September 30, 1985) on U.S. 84 near the Elk cutoff in McLennan County.
Texas Rangers say all leads have been exhausted, and they're asking for the public's help solving this case.
If you or someone you know may have information that could help Rangers find justice for Dorothy Estep, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477). You do not have to give Crime Stoppers your name, and information leading to an arrest and conviction will be rewarded with a cash.
You can also contact the Texas Rangers via their website or by calling their missing persons hotline at 1-800-346-3242.
Right now, the reward for information about Dorothy's case is $6,000, as she is this month's TxDPS featured cold case. After TxDPS announces another featured case, the reward in Dorothy's case will be $3,000.
I can't imagine spending decades not knowing who murdered my loved one and why. If you're reading this and you remember any detail that might help police find Dorothy's killer, I implore you to speak up and do the right thing.
