KWTX reported Tuesday that Salado Intermediate School had made contact with an astronaut currently in space.

The students at Salado IS had the opportunity to speak with someone aboard the ISS - the International Space Station. The conversation with Scott Tingle was part of the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) Program, which is part of Salado ISD's STEM initiative.

Due to the short time the ISS would be overhead, the conversation only lasted about 10 minutes. Still, when's the last time you spoke to someone flying around the earth in the vacuum of space?

According to his NASA bio, Tingle is part of the Expedition 54/55 crew who launched to the International Space Station in December 2017.
