Scheduled Fort Hood Training Will Include Helicopters, Tanks, Live Fire and More
Several live-training exercises will be taking place today at Fort Hood.
According to a representative from the press center at Fort Hood, today the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team will be organizing an exercise called the Pegasus Forge.
This Pegasus Forge is a "brigade-level exercise which involves the air force and some army units." There will be portions of the exercise that include live fire, and due to the scale of this training there will be some increased noise that the public might find more noticeable than usual.
The exercise is scheduled to start at 4 PM and will culminate at approximately 5 PM. Originally the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team was scheduled for a month long rotation at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.
"Due to COVID, that rotation was cancelled, this event is designed to get after a lot of the things, that they would've worked on in California at the National Training Center."
The unit is divided into several different crews with different objectives. The exercises will help the crew practice maintenance skills, synchronization, fire command, and crew coordination. Once crews have qualified, multiple crews are able to come together and work together as a platoon, and then continue to the company level from there.
Depending on the exercise indirect fire and artillery could be added as well as different attack vehicles like helicopters, tanks, or even B-52 bombers.
Other exercises will take place in the evening, as the army representative stated that, "Anything we do in the day, we have to be able to do at night and in limited visibility conditions."
So if you hear or see some things this afternoon or this evening, do not be alarmed, it's just a drill.
