According to reports, city leaders celebrated the completion of construction on I-35 in Temple on Thursday by holding a ribbon-cutting.

For years, decades, the people of Central Texas have waited anxiously for I-35 to come to completion.

Unfortunately for Waco, construction is expected to last until at least 2024. Improvements to I-35 will:

  • improve safety and mobility
  • Add capacity
  • Incorporate technology
  • Enhance aesthetics

Randy Hoppmann, the TxDot spokesperson, has mentioned that the new work on I-35 in Waco will cost upwards of $26 billion.

These projects definitely cause some major road rage for residents as well as incoming students. Baylor University will be expecting over 3,000 new freshmen and is encouraging all of its students to check I-35 construction updates regularly.

As a resident in Waco, the best advice I can offer is to keep your cool and check your GPS frequently for road closures. Good luck and happy driving.
