Four people are without a home and dealing with the loss of a beloved pet after a house fire in Temple Monday evening.

When Temple Fire and Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 600 block of Filly Lane at 7:16 PM, a family member who was home at the time was safely outside. However, three dogs and a cat were still inside.

Firefighters were able to find and rescue the pets, but one dog did not respond to treatment and passed away. The other animals were taken to a local veterinarian’s office for treatment.

There were no other reported injuries. The family of four who lived in the home have made arrangements to stay with friends.

One bedroom and the attic of the single-story home received heavy fire damage, and the rest of the home was damaged by heat, smoke, and water. A preliminary dollar loss to the house is estimated at $50,000, with contents loss estimated at $20,000.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause of the blaze.
