REPORT: Texas Ranked Second In Nation For 2023 White Supremacist Events
Recent data collected in Texas has revealed that white supremacist occurrences happened frequently in 2023. Here's what is known at the time of writing.
Data Reveals How Often These Events Occurred In 2023
The Anti-Defamation League collected all the data in regards to when and where said events happened. Click2Houston also helped further elaborate on the data found. The ADL reported that one major group, based in the Lone Star State, was the main cause of the increase.
The ADL revealed that Patriot Front increased the issuing of propaganda by nearly 60%. In addition, data showed that Texas saw 500 events held in the state with the main focus of white supremacy, which was the number on the list.
Due to the collected data, Texas was placed on the list for white supremacist incidents at second, below Virginia, who was at number one.
Regional Director of ADL Southwest, Mark Toubin said the following about the data:
“Texas is home to one of the largest white supremacist organizations in the nation—Patriot Front--and our numbers reflect that unfortunate reality...In the city of Houston alone, ADL’s H.E.A.T. Map shows 28 white supremacist propaganda distributions and one white supremacist event.”
Further Examination Of Data Reveals Rise In Other Types Of Hate Campaigns
In addition to the previously mentioned white supremacist events, information collected also showed an uptick of antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda in the United States as a whole. The CEO of the ADL, Jonathan Greenblatt was quoted as saying:
“Hardly a day goes by without communities being targeted by this odious rhetoric that terrorizes and harasses people at increasingly disturbing rates. This growing threat reminds us we must stay committed to the fight against all forms of hate.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has recently made efforts to stop the current rise of antisemitism in the state, which you can read more about here per Click2Houston. In addition, Abbott said "Antisemitism is never acceptable in Texas, and we will do everything we can to fight it."
If more information becomes available, we will report it here.
