Dangerous "Chromebook Challenge" Goes Viral

The Chromebook Challenge is the latest in a long line of idiotic trends that young people on social media are using to try and go viral on the internet. The "challenge" consists of someone inserting a metal object into the USB port of a laptop in order to make the computer start smoking. Sometimes the laptops may even catch on fire.

⚠️ Students Face Charges & Schools Issue Warnings

A student in Connecticut and another in New York are facing charges after destroying the school property and then posting the evidence online. School officials are concerned enough to have released a warning to the local parents about the trend and its dangers even though there haven't been any incidences that have occurred in Central Texas yet.

‍♂️ A History of Harmful Internet Challenges

The Chromebook Challenge isn't the first of its kind. In 2018, the Tide Pod Challenge became international news after hospitals began treating patients for excessive vomity and breathing problems that occasionally required ventilation support. The Blackout Challenge was another internet fad that consisted of participants letting someone choke them until they passed out. Another great idea of the younger generation was the Cinnamon Challenge. The Cinnamon Challenge was accomplished by you guessed it, eating cinnamon. Unfortunately, cinnamon is extremely fine and can cause damage to the lungs when inhaled, which it will be while you are gagging on it and spitting it out of your mouth.

️ Parent Warning: Talk to Your Kids About the Risks

Take the time to talk with your children and let them know that the Chromebook Challenge is not a challenge that they should be undertaking. It can cause expensive damage that they will be responsible for, and it could result in a very painful injury. The likes are worth the yikes!
