Two men are in jail after luring people with a Craigslist ad, then robbing them at gunpoint in Temple.

Temple police received two separate robbery reports Wednesday afternoon from men who said they'd met up with the suspects in response to an ad for a Playstation 4 gaming console. The first victim met the two alleged thieves in the 800 block of South Henderson Street around 5:30 PM. The victim told police one of the men pulled a handgun and demanded cash. When the victim handed over his money, the two suspects fled on foot.

Another victim told police he met two men matching the first victim's description in the 1100 block of South 22nd Street around 5:40 PM. Again, the victim approached the two and was ordered to hand over money at gunpoint. The two suspects then fled on foot again.

Officers were able to locate the two suspects using data from the victims' phones, which led them to an address in the 900 block of South 18th Street. The two were taken into custody and were awaiting formal charges of aggravated robbery Thursday afternoon. Their names have not yet been released.

Detectives say they are investigating two similar cases which were reported last week. They have not said if the two men in custody were involved in those robberies.

When dealing with people on Craigslist, one should always insist on meeting in a safe, public, and well-populated area. The Temple Police Department allows buyers and sellers to meet in the lobby of its headquarters at 209 E Avenue A, and other local police departments have a similar policy.
