Jackeline Hortencia Ramirez, 34,  was convicted and sentenced this week to over 12 years in prison for trafficking methamphetamine.

Reports state that Ramirez was stopped while driving at a port of entry in Brownsville with 2 of her children in June 2018. Agents searched Ramirez's Nissan Maxima and found almost 6 kilos of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

Upon further investigation, it was clear that this was not the first time Jackeline had smuggled drugs. Ramirez had made 5 different deliveries to Waco and Houston and had then brought the money back to Matamoros, Mexico. Officials say that Jackeline earned between $4,000-5,000 for each trip she made.

In October 2018, Ramirez pleaded guilty to intent to distribute almost 12 pounds of methamphetamine. During the sentencing Jackeline pleaded with U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez for leniency, stating that she had 12 children to care for.

Judge Rodriguez took into consideration the number of trips and the amount of profit that Ramirez made when determining sentencing. Ultimately, Judge Rodriguez sentenced Jackeline Ramirez to 150 months in prison.
