There's good news and bad news for drivers who travel along FM 3481 in Harker Heights as part of their daily commute.

The good news - TxDOT will break ground Monday, December 9 on a project to widen the two-lane roadway with a continuous center-turn lane from FM 2410 to Del Rey Drive. They'll also be installing a new traffic light at the intersection of FM 3481, Vineyard Trail, Cedar Knob Road.

The bad news - work isn't expected to be complete until summer of 2020, and drivers are being advised to expect lane closures, delays, and some congestion for the duration of the project. The worst congestion is expected between 8 AM and 4 PM daily.

It's just part of the growth we're experiencing here in Central Texas. Growing pains, if you will. Just try to keep a cool head (or warm legs in the winter months) and be careful driving in those construction zones. Watch for workers, take it slow, and pray you don't run over a nail. (It used to happen to me all the time during I-35 expansion.)
