Psst! Did you hear the news? Harker Heights is getting a new Tex-Mex restaurant, and before you start belly-aching about another Tex-Mex restaurant coming to town, this may be one of your favorites.

Good News Travels Fast

Tuesday, March 8, 2022 may end up being a legendary day for good news.

Let's start with some quick NFL news: it was announced that  Aaron Rodgers would be staying in Green Bay after agreeing to a record contract - 4-years, $200 million deal.

Even bigger news: the Denver Broncos announced that they agreed to a trade with the Seattle Seahawks for Russel Wilson.

That was huge news in the NFL world for Green Bay, Seattle, and Denver but the best news for us locals came in the way of an announcement of a  new restaurant coming to Harker Heights.

New Restaurant Coming to Harker Heights

After seeing the NFL news yesterday, I immediately hit up social media to catch up on the news when I saw this post from Gina Pence, the President and CEO of The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce. This immediately caught my attention, and suddenly nothing else mattered.

Chuy's is Coming to Harker Heights

Yep! This is HUGE news! Chuy's is a Tex-Mex favorite all across the state of Texas.

Chuy's started in Austin in 1982 and has grown to around 100 restaurants in 17 states.  Now folks all across the country get to enjoying Tex-Mex from "Deep in the Heart of Tex-Mex."

When is Chuy's Grand Opening?

David Flash of the Central Texas Reporter messaged Pence following the announcement and reported that the new Chuy's location will be built near the Sam's Club in Harker Heights on Central Texas Expressway. No word yet on when the grand opening is.

Chuy's Menu

Chuy's has lots of great items on the menu, starting with their chips and salsa - the basic standard by which we judge all Tex-Mex joints. Add a bowl of queso and you're set to get things started.

Don't forget the famous "Big as yo Face" Burritos, a meal all by itself. Then there's my personal favorite, The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo that includes three different enchiladas, a crispy taco, and a tostada. "Thank you very much!", as the King would say.

Doesn't this look good?

Chuy's also offers a great happy hour for the above 21 crowd. I'm not sure when this new location will open, but it can't happen fast enough.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.

Here are the top 20 results of the survey. Let's see what the good people of Temple are craving!

Blue Bell is the official ice cream of Texas, and my personal favorite. According to a new list of the 15 best brands of ice cream nationwide, Blue Bell was ranked in the middle.

In addition to ingredients, texture, and variety, Tasting Table used Influenster and other site reviews as part of its ranking process.

Scroll on to find out how Blue Bell compared to the number one ice cream, and how all 15 on the list were judged.
