1968 was a year of upheaval in America.  Robert Kennedy... assassinated.  Martin Luther King, Jr... assassinated.  We were in the midst of the transformation of American society as a whole, and there didn't seem to be much room for ol' Johnny Cash.  A trip to prison changed everything.

Before the assassinations.  Before the upheaval.  There was the man in black.  Johnny Cash had been to the top... and the bottom... of the world.  Emerging from a years-long stupor of drug addiction, Johnny Cash took the world by the b$&*#s and placed himself, rightly, atop the country music world.  He also cemented his legacy as the bad boy of country music.
