A man accused of vandalizing a Killeen homeowner's vehicle was shot five times.

According to a report from the Killeen Daily Herald, early this morning a man whose identity had not been released by police as of Tuesday afternoon was critically injured after police say he purposely damaged another Killeen resident's vehicle.

The homeowner told authorities that he heard a commotion going on outside of his house, and when he went to investigate he saw a man desecrating a truck in his driveway. The suspect was then said to have left the scene of the crime in a blue Honda.

The homeowner went back inside to grab his gun, at which point the suspect reportedly returned wielding an aluminum bat. An altercation took place between the two near the intersection of Greengate Drive, and multiple shots were fired.

Killeen Police Sgt. Shawn DeJournett says the suspect was shot 5 times and fled the scene, making it as far as a Dollar General on nearby East Rancier Avenue. Emergency medical personnel responded to the Dollar General and airlifted the man to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in critical condition.

Currently the case is under investigation. Honestly, I'm curious to know all the details. Who was this guy? Why was he defacing another man's property? Why did he decide to grab a bat of all things?
