
New ‘Killer Bee’ Attack, Hospitalizes Three Near Belton Lake, Texas
Morgan's Point Resort, Texas, which sit on the east side of Belton Lake near the city limits of Temple, was the sight of the latest Africanized bee attack that led to three people being rushed to the hospital over the weekend. Texas has been experiencing a serious uptick in swarm attacks with both humans and livestock losing their life.

Depending on how allergic an animal is to the venom within a honeybee sting, anaphylaxis can occur with just one, but the sure blunt force trauma of 1,000 stings can more than take down a horse or human. Africanized honeybees have been know to live in colonies numbering close to 800,000 to a million, and when alerted, literally the entire force of the swarm can attack a perceived threat simultaneously.

According to this KCEN article, a tree trimmer on Saturday began to be attacked by the bees, and when attempting to provide aid, and get them away from the swarm, two additional people became victims of the Africanized honeybees too. In addition to the original victim that was trimming the trees, first responders Fire Specialist Katherine Myers and Patrol Officer Erin Gaines-Myers were both attacked while trying to save the original victim.

If you discover a bee hive, it is always best to avoid because you never know just how aggressively they may respond. So, make sure to keep your distance, and call an expert to handle moving the hive.
