The owner of a local business that received national criticism for a controversial truck decal was in custody Tuesday on an assault charge.

36-year-old Brad Kolb, owner of Hornet Signs in Waco, turned himself in to the McLennan County Jail Tuesday morning after a former employee told police she’d been shoved by Kolb and suffered injuries as a result.

The assault allegedly took place on December 2 when the employee returned to the office to retrieve personal belongings. She and Kolb got into an argument, and an arrest affidavit says Kolb shoved the woman out of the building, causing her to fall to the ground.

Investigators say they have photos of bruises on the victim’s arms and hips. Those photos along with information from witnesses prompted them to request a warrant for Kolb’s arrest.

Kolb, meanwhile, disputes the charges and says the employee was acting irrationally and refused to leave the business. He submitted a video to KWTX-TV that was shot as the woman was leaving the business and shows her shouting, swearing and demanding to be let inside.

Kolb was released from jail Tuesday afternoon on $1,000 bail.

Hornet Signs was involved in a national controversy in September of this year after placing a realistic decal of a woman (an employee who volunteered to model) lying in a truck bed with her hands and feet bound by ropes on an employee’s vehicle.
