Sherill Small of Rockdale turned herself in to police Thursday, charged with murder after a child she was fostering died Wednesday.

Rockdale police were called to Small’s home Monday evening and found 2-year-old Alexandria Hill not breathing and unresponsive. She was taken to Richards Memorial Hospital’s emergency room, where doctors determined she was bleeding around her brain and eyes. She was flown to Scott and White Hospital and put on life support, but she never regained consciousness. She was taken off life support on Wednesday.

Small, 54, claims the girl was accidently dropped, but police say her injuries are not consistent with that story. Small is now being held on $100,000 bond and another child she was fostering was removed from her home.

Alexandria Hill was placed in foster care in November of 2012 after being removed from her parent’s home for “neglectful supervision”.
