The Killeen Independent School District earlier this week announced plans to bump in-person instruction up to Monday, August 31, which means there will be kids out and about during the morning hours.

That's why the City Of Killeen is announcing that school zone flashing lights will be active in Killeen this Friday in preparation for the first day of in-person school.

Be on the lookout for city crews who will be testing the lights to ensure proper functionality and timing. Motorists should observe school zones and adjust their speeds during this test period.

In other words, start practicing slowing down and watching out for kids in these school zones.

Enforcement is set to begin Monday and fines will be HEAVY if your are caught speeding, use a cell phone, or try to pass a school bus with red lights flashing or stop sign extended. We don't know how much exactly, but it ain't gonna be pretty.

Just watch out for the kids please. Thanks!
