Starting Monday, January 6, you'd better give yourself a little extra time to get where you're going if your commute takes you along US 190/Interstate 14. TxDOT is reducing the speed limit between Belton and Harker Heights.

The limit from FM 3423 in Harker Heights through Nolanville to the overpass at FM 2410 in Belton will be reduced from 75 mph to 65 mph to accommodate the ongoing expansion of the highway. TxDOT is adding lanes to both east and westbound I-14/190, as well as new concrete barriers.

So, how long will this be in effect? A news release about the reduction reads "for the duration of the project", which is expected to wrap up around summer of 2021.

Since anyone who travels along that stretch of road on a regular basis knows that people are still going to be weaving in and out of traffic at 80+ mph because they're VIPs who can't slog along with we mere peons, I recommend taking it easy and continuing to drive defensively. Oh, and leaving a little earlier than usual.
