One person is dead after an early morning apartment fire in Temple.

Temple Fire & Rescue responded to Lakeway Apartments, 2105 West Adams Avenue, at 2:14 AM Wednesday.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 2:26 AM.

While extinguishing the fire, they found 65-year-old Howard Lee McLin unresponsive inside an apartment. A media release said McLin was "beyond medical assistance".

Justice of the Peace Don Engleking pronounced McLin deceased and ordered an autopsy. Lin's name was initially withheld pending notification of his family.

Three other people were displaced by the fire, which caused minor flame and smoke damage to an adjoining apartment. No injuries to the three were reported.

The fire marshal's office is investigating the fire, and officials say there was a working smoke alarm inside the unit in which the fire started.
