Temple ISD hoping voters will pass two new propositions aimed at improvements for Temple High School and Wildcat Stadium.

The two bond propositions were approved by the Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday night, so now it'll be up to the residents of Temple to approve on the November 2 election.

What Are We Voting For?

In a news release, Temple ISD reports that the first proposition is asking Temple voters to approve a raise in the property tax rate by twelve cents per $100 of home valuation for general improvements at all TISD campuses. If passed, the money raised would total more than $178 million.

Proposition two would add on another half cent per $100 of home valuation for improvements to Wildcat Stadium. It's expected that if passed, it would total more than $6 million.

How Much Per Taxpayer?

The two propositions together would cost Temple taxpayers about $136 per $100,000 of valuation, totaling $184.9 million.

Preparing for the Future

Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott tells FOX 44 News that growth is one of the reasons for these two bonds.

“Our demographic analysis over the last three years has showed we’re going to have 1,000 more students by 2025.” Temple ISD hasn't added a new school to the district since the late 90's, so some of the money would go towards that.

Two other reasons for the bonds would be for security improvements and building permanent facilities to replace portables while also renovating other facilities.

Back in 2018 the tax rate was 16 cents higher than it is right now, so the 12.5 cents would still be lower than it was three years ago.

It's all in the taxpayers hands now. Voting day is November 2, with early voting happening October 18 through 29. If you're not registered to vote yet, you have till Oct 2 to get it done.
