Texas Wesleyan Fires Coach Over Marijuana Comments
A North Texas University Coach has been fired after telling a recruit that his school doesn't recruit student-athletes from Colorado because students from that state can't pass a drug test.
Texas Wesleyan University President Fred Slabach alongside the school's Athletic Director Steve Trachier made the announcement about the coaches termination last week.
According to CBSDFW.com, Coach Mike Jeffcoat told a recruit in an email "you can thank your liberal politicians" as one of the reasons TWU could not recruit the student.
The University is acting fast to respond to Jeffcoat's remarks. President Slabach said at a press conference that "Mr. Jeffcoat's comments in no way reflect our recruitment practices or athletic values." Jeffcoat spent 10 years as an MLB player before becoming a coach at Texas Wesleyan in 2002.
