Firefighters Battle Tire Fire in South Temple

At 3:43 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015, Temple Fire & Rescue units responded to a tire fire at Navigators Unlimited, 3910 Shallow Ford West Drive.

The first arriving Engine reported heavy black smoke and flames showing from an outdoor truck tire storage area at the business.  Troy Volunteer Fire Department responded one Engine with Mutual Aid.  Additional responding Mutual Aid units were cancelled.  Firefighting Foam was used to help extinguish the stubborn fire.  

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s office are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Five Engine Companies, one Rescue Truck Company, one Fire Incident Commander, three support units; a total of 23 Temple Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the fire.  Temple Police, Scott & White EMS also responded.  Temple Public Works Department responded with a Track Hoe to assist firefighters move tires and check for hot spots. 

The call was dispatched at 3:43 p.m., the first unit arrived at 3:48 p.m., and the final unit cleared at 7:24 p.m.

Temple and Holland fire crews were working to extinguish several hundred tires burning south of Midway drive in Temple Thursday afternoon.

The fire at 3815 Shallow Ford West Road was producing thick black smoke visible for miles. Fire officials have not said what may have caused the fire.
